Hangovers. Also known as Inflammation, a lack of antioxidants, dehydration, fatigue, and perhaps some other stuff going on at the same time.Also known as waking up feeling terrible after a night on the town. Not exactly anyone's idea of fun.

Rather than reaching for an overpriced "hangover cure" full of additives and fillers or spending hours drinking as many Pedialytes you can (also full of junk), try some of these natural remedies to help you navigate the treacherous, head-splitting seas of a hangover.

1. Magnesium. 

Any time I have a headache for any reason, I tak to help relieve the pressure and the pain. Don't have any supplements on hand? Try consuming magnesium rich foods such as spinach, pumpkin seeds and almonds! Here is a delicious magnesium rich recipe to try: Spinach Secret Brownies.

2. HYDRATE with Water, Coconut Water, and Electrolytes.

Alcohol consumption= dehydration. My favorite way to hydrate, other than by drinking plenty of clean water, is with coconut water, which is high in electrolytes, including potassium, which your body sorely needs after overindulging in alcoholic beverages. Ditch the sugary store-bought electrolyte beverages and drink fresh coconut water instead! You can also add a tiny pinch of Himalayan sea salt in your water for an electrolyte boost.

3. Ginger.

To settle an upset stomach, ginger is my favorite. You can make a ginger tea by mixing ginger root, raw honey, and warm water together.

4. Eggs. 

Eggs contain L-cysteine, an amino acid that is responsible for breaking down toxins and releasing them. This makes them a great breakfast choice after your night out! They are also a great source of protein which will help you with energy levels.

5. Complex Carbohydrates. 

Another thing to consider when choosing your breakfast the next day is one rich  with healthy carbs to provide energy. My favorite complex carbs include sweet potatoes, beets, plantains, and winter squash. My breakfast hash would be a great choice!

6. Bone Broth. 

Sipping on organic bone broth can help to relieve hangover symptoms by restoring electrolyte balance. Bone Broth contains minerals that are easy to absorb. Make your own or buy a grass-fed, organic brand.

7. Milk Thistle. 

Milk thistle is known for it's ability to support the liver and draw out toxins. Take a milk thistle supplement when hungover to support yourself!

8. Try my Homemade Hangover Remedy.

Packed with many of the ingredients listed above, this homemade remedy is a beneficial (and delicious) way to overcome the symptoms of a hangover.

Homemade Hangover Remedy

Ingredients:

1/2 cup organic coconut water

1/2 cup organic aloe water

1 frozen organic banana

2 tablespoons almond butter

1 tablespoon Manuka honey

1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder

1 teaspoon fresh ginger root, grated

Method:

1) Throw all the ingredients into your blender. Add some filtered water ice-cubes.

2) Blend on high for 30 seconds-1 minute.

3) Pour yourself a glass!
