Beauty Review: 100 Percent Pure
A review of the toxin-free beauty company, 100 Percent Pure, including a round up of my top picks.
100 Percent Pure was one of the first toxin-free beauty companies that I tried after finally figuring out how harmful the junk in my make-up bag was.
I remember looking on the EWG app and being totally freaked out that my beloved brands were coming up in the orange and red zones, being linked to cancer, reproductive issues, allergies, and respiratory damage. Frantically searching the database for a product that the EWG approved, I stumbled across 100 Percent Pure. A truly natural, truly toxin-free, plant based beauty company.
Here is my break down review on the company overall, popular products, packaging and more. Check it out!
ABOUT THE COMPANY: 100 PERCENT PURE
100 Percent Pure is a company who truly pride themselves on producing some of the purest products. The natural ingredients used in their products ALL originate from nature and ONLY undergo chemical changes due to biological processes such as fermentation, distillation, and cold processing. They explain the processing procedure thoroughly on their website here.
One of my favorite parts about this company, is that unlike many other "natural" beauty brands on the market, they color their make-up with fruit pigments only. Zero FD&C dyes like Red Dye #40, Blue Dye #6, Yellow Dye #5, etc which could contain harmful coal tar, lead, mercury and other heavy metals. They have a very impressive 9-step testing process that double checks for pesticides, herbicides, ingredient synergy, potency, irritability and sensitivities, stability and MORE. Like I mentioned, it's very impressive.
The company are committed to reducing their carbon footprint. This is illustrated in how they develop their products (biodegradable formulas), how they package (recycled/ recyclable packaging, biodegradable packing material from corn starch), how they print (non toxic and soy inks), and even how they landscape.
The products are relatively pricey but they do last for ages, and the branding is trendy + cute, as well as being eco-friendly, which makes it even more appealing to stock your beauty cabinet with. Okay, 100 Percent Pure, now you're just showing off.
MY TOP PICKS
Fruit Pigmented Ultra Lengthening Mascara in Black Tea, $26
Ingredients: Black Tea, Vitamin E, Honey Beeswax, Blackberry Extract, Blackcurrant Extract, Raspberry Extract, Hydrolyzed Oat Protein, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Vitamin B5, Seaweed Powder, Coconut Acid, Mica, Cocoa Butter, Pearl Powder, Rice Powder, Cocoa Powder, Powdered Coffee Beans, Lavender Honey, Oregano Extract, Thyme Extract, Rosemary Extract, Lavender Extract, Goldenseal Extract.
This mascara was the first product I ever tried from the company, and it was the product that got me HOOKED on these products. You know how toxic mascaras have that strong chemical smell? This smells lovely, almost fruity. It glides on smoothly and the thin wand gives you volume without the clumping. If I had to compare it to a store-bought brand, I would say it's similar to the Too Faced Mascara with a thinner wand and zero harmful ingredients. I can wear this mascara all day and have zero fall-out mascara dust. My lashes look fabulous at 9am or 6pm! I use and love the black tea color, which is your standard dark black, but they also have purple tinted, browns, and more.
Fruit Pigmented Cocoa Butter Matte Lipstick in Cassia, $16
Ingredients: Theobroma Cacao (Organic Cocoa) Seed Butter, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Extracts of Prunus Cerasus (Cherry) Fruit, Prunus Domestica (Plum) Fruit, Vitis Vinifera (Cabernet Grape) Fruit, Rubus Idaeus (Raspberry) Fruit, Vaccinium Angustifolium (Blueberry) Fruit, Rubus Fruticosus (Blackberry) Fruit, Prunus Persica (Peach) Fruit, Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Fruit, Solanum Lycopersicum (Tomato) Fruit/Leaf/Stem, Punica Granatum (Pomegranate), Cacao (Chocolate), Rosa Centifolia (Rose Petals) Flower, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower/Leaf/Stem, Oryza Sativa (Rice Starch), Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Silica, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract
I have several shades of this matte lipstick from 100 Percent Pure and adore them all. They have a striking red (Sonora) that I love for evening events, Sahara which is a brown tinted color perfect for all, and my every day go to, Cassia, which is just the perfect pink nude tone that goes with anything. What I love most about the lipstick line is that there are no artificial colors. Majority of natural brands, including Beautycounter, use Red #40 in their warm colors. 100 Percent Pure uses fruit. Since we ingest approximately 3.7 lbs of lipstick in our lifetime (dependent on wear frequency of course), it's pretty important we opt for brands that are clean enough to eat.
I love the matte look with these sticks. As with any matte brand, it can be a tad drying on the lips but it's nothing a little lipgloss or balm can't cure. The color lasts for ages and it's full coverage, making it perfect for a more dramatic look. I would compare these sticks to the Mac Matte line- same high-quality, cleaner ingredients and kinder to animals!
Glossy Locks Grow More Shampoo, $33
Ingredients: Organic Aloe Vera Leaf Juice, Organic Rose Hydrosol Flower Water, Saponified Coconut Oil, Vegetarian Glycerin, Plant Cellulose, Orange Fiber, Green Coffee Leaf/Seed Extract, Caffeine, Mint Extract, Rice Ferment Filtrate (Sake), Biotin, Vitamin B3, Vitamin B6, Extracts of Camellia Sinensis (Organic Green Tea) Leaf*, Panax Ginseng (Ginseng) Extract, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower/Leaf/Stem, Mentha (Mint) Essential Oil, Lonicera Caprifolium (Japanese Honeysuckle), Acetum Mali (Apple Cider Vinegar), Curcuma Longa (Turmeric).
Luxuriously moisturizing shampoo perfect for deeply restoring hydration and health back into thirsty locks. As someone with color treated hair, this is safe and effective for me. I love that the formula contains no sulfates or any other harsh detergents, synthetic chemicals, artificial fragrances, chemical preservatives or any other toxic ingredients found in other brands. It cleans and moisturizes without weighing down the hair and causing grease soon after washing. The smell is beautiful- not too strong or weak, and is perfect for the entire family to use.
