Let’s get real here, acne is annoying. It’s painful, unsightly, irritating, and can really knock your confidence.

Acne has never really been a huge issue for me. In high school, I would occasionally break out when I ate something bad (you can read more on my bio page about that awkward phase of life), but on the whole, my skin was pretty clear.

However, now I'm in my 20's, pimples seem to creep up everywhere when I’m stressed, overtired, or if my hormones are giving me grief.

The majority of acne is caused by clogged pores that lead to bacteria and yeast overgrowth on the skin. Having a poor diet, increased stress, hormonal imbalance, and taking certain medications can all make acne worse. Rather than reach for harsh drugs that can cause seriously nasty side effects, I recommend you go and visit your local naturopath to try and work out the root cause. You can also try some home remedies!

Although I truly believe that acne is a reflection of something going on inside your body, rather than a surface issue, I have found that when I break out, this face wash can help reduce symptoms. It contains powerful anti-bacterial ingredients such as Manuka honey and tea tree essential oil, along with probiotics, cinnamon, and apple cider vinegar.

Tea-tree oil is my fave essential oil to use here as it has some really great supporting research, but I also love to use holy basil, juniper berry, and lavender essential oils if I’m combatting acne due to their great anti-bacterial benefits.
