Homemade Turmeric Tea/ Golden Milk
A Staple in our Home: Turmeric Tea, commonly known as Golden Milk. Nourishing, Warming and Packed with Health Benefits. Paleo, Keto, Vegan.
Turmeric is a gold standard health food. It helps your body to fight off and prevent the common cold, it's a natural anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and it has many medicinal properties doing your body a ton of good at all times of the year. This "turmeric tea" is a staple in our home. We drink it 3 times a week in the evenings before bed. It's soothing, warming, calming, and when prepared this way with spices, it's yummy too!
By combining turmeric with just a pinch of black pepper (you can't even taste it), you can increase it's bio-availability by up to 2000%. By combining it with healthy fats such as grass-fed butter, coconut oil, or Ghee, it allows it to be absorbed directly into the blood stream so you can really reap all the fabulous benefits turmeric has to offer. By combining it with Ceylon cinnamon (the real cinnamon) you are also obtaining benefits such as blood sugar control, and further antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits too. This tea actually maximizes the natural antioxidant power of turmeric because it is served hot and is combined with true cinnamon too.
This recipe is adapted to my taste, but feel free to play around with the amount of spices and sweetener to make it more palatable to you..
(Makes four cups of tea)
2 cups nut milk of choice
1 teaspoon turmeric
1/4 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon powder (ceylon cinnamon is my fave for many reasons)
pinch of ground black pepper
1 tablespoon manuka honey (or sweetener of choice)
1) Blend all ingredients in a blender on high speed until combined.
2) In a large saucepan, heat blended tea over medium heat for 5-7 minutes or until warm.
3) Drink and enjoy this lovely nourishing nightcap.
