I’m a big believer that sun exposure is beneficial to your health; it elevates your vitamin D status, helps with hormone imbalance, and makes you feel great. However, too much sun can be very harmful and HURT. Sunburn is never fun, and for those that lose track of time and end up looking rather lobster-esque, relief is necessary to get back to feeling beautiful.

1. Drink Up (Pina Coladas Don’t Count)

Hydrate. Hydrate. Hydrate. Too much sun can be extremely dehydrating, so make sure you drink as much water as possible. Sunburn is also drying to the skin, so keep well hydrated to aid in the recovery progress and prevent peeling down the road.

2. Eat The Right Foods

Most people think of sunburn as a purely external issue, as it shows on the skin, but you can speed up the healing process from the inside- out by incorporating hydrating, nourishing foods into your diet. Fruits and vegetables with high water content such as watermelon, grapefruit broccoli make great options for healing. Be sure to avoid inflammatory foods and drinks such as processed foods, alcohol, and foods with high added sugar content which can make the problem worse.

Lavender Essential Oil

Peppermint Essential Oil

Organic Extra-Virgin Coconut Oil

High-Quality Aloe Vera Gel (Avoid Any With Carrageenan and Fillers)


In a small jar, mix ¼ cup each of aloe vera gel and coconut oil (soft). Add ten drops each of lavender and peppermint essential oils and mix well. Store in the fridge for added relief when applied!
